Stephanie Maloney, a retired college professor, lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her incredibly patient husband Tom.  Her artistic interests began as a small child when she sat on her father’s lap and collaborated on watercolor paintings.  She went on to complete her undergraduate degree in art and later graduate degrees in Art History and Archaeology. The sights, sounds, and colors of Brazil, where she served in the Peace Corps, and Portugal, where she has worked as an archaeologist for thirty years, are continuing influences on her work.

After retirement, Stephanie was inspired to begin beading by her best friend with whom she started Lírios Designs. She began learning off-loom weaving but soon found herself drawn to the loom.  Now a designer and self-professed loom addict, she believes that if something has a hole it can be woven.  That attitude has led to some interesting, if not always successful, results.  If there is a new bead out there she wants to figure out how to integrate it into her loom work.  In order to spread the joy of beading on a loom she gives lessons at bead shows and in her home. She and the friend who started it all now have a second company, Good Bead Stuff, that provides unusual findings, seed beads, and Stephanie’s looms to beaders in the region.
